Throughout 2018 I put on a lot of weight and at the start of 2019 I realised I needed to do something about it. Over 2019, I lost 2 and a half stone and began to feel like myself again and a lot more comfortable with my body. The only form of exercise I did was netball. I play twice a week and love it. I decided I wanted to take up something new. I had a few friends who did CrossFit and had always wanted to give it a try. I also wanted to continue my journey to a happier version of myself.

When I was at university, I used to go to the gym with a friend and enjoyed that, but found we would always do the same thing. Since moving to Northampton I didn’t have anyone to go to the gym with and was rubbish at going on my own, as I felt intimidated lifting weights. I have also done some other group training classes a few years ago but stopped due to it being too expensive.

I researched CrossFit gyms in Northampton and found UNIT 22. I loved that I could try it out for free before I committed so I decided to just bite the bullet and go for it. I was very nervous before the first session but everyone was lovely and so helpful! The sessions were hard but I loved it and decided to take it up!

Joining UNIT 22 has given me so much more confidence. I feel amazing. I know personally I still have weight I want to lose, however CrossFit has helped me to keep on top of eating and training well. I feel very motivated to be the best I can be and am looking forward to seeing more results. Also my technique is getting better and I’m getting stronger.

The sessions at UNIT 22 are well structured, fun and really push me, which I love. I find that the coaches and fellow CrossFitters push me to lift heavier and push through when I think I can’t. People are always there to help me improve my technique or just to tell me ‘you can do it’. I feel really comfortable and at home here and I don’t think I have felt like this at any gym before.

For anyone toying with the idea of joining I say just go for it! Try out a session. It will be hard so don’t quit, and make sure to come back and complete your 3 sessions. The first session is always going to be a jump into the deep end and consistency is key. I now play 2 netball games a week and attend 3 CrossFit sessions and I love it! I feel like I have so much energy and am really happy. So just go for it, be the best you can be.

Thanks,
Jess
